Dark Roasted Coffees
Caffe Verona
Latin America and Asia/Pacific
Taste Profile: Roasty Sweet and Dark Cocoa
The Caffe Verona, along with the Italian Roast, is Starbucks' standard dark-roasted coffee. It is a great coffee to introduce people to dark-roasted coffees. Verona is more balanced than most dark coffees. It has the perfect toasty quality, but there is a subtle sweetness that comes from a hint of dark chocolate.
Great with: chocolate and buttery pastries.

Gold Coast Blend
Multi-Region Blend
Taste Profile: Stout and Refined
When I first tasted this coffee about two years ago, I simply thought it was just a richer version of the Caffe Verona. Now when I drink a cup of Gold Coast, I feel refined and stylish. It is toasty and rich that is refined further by a subtle earthiness and soft spice. It is a great coffee for cool autumn afternoons.
Great with: Cheese danishes

Italian Roast (FairTrade Certified)
Latin America and Asia/Pacific
Taste Profile: Roasty and Sweet
Italian Roast is Starbucks' other standard of dark-roasted coffee. It is rich and deep when you first try it. There is a very subtle caramelized flavors that gives it a little sweetness. The one thing that I have a hard time with is how dry it can be. I tend to need to add sugar and cream.
Great with: caramel and sugar.

Espresso Roast
Multi-Region Blend
Taste Profile: Rich and Caramelly
Starbucks' Espresso Roast is what is at the heart of Starbucks' lattes. It is very rich and dry but a very versatile coffee. It can be used in classic lattes, cappuccinos, iced drinks, and even as a classic cup of coffee. It can be somewhat dry with subtle hints of caramel sweetness.
Great with: muffins and oatmeal.

Komodo Dragon Blend
Region: Asia/Pacific
Taste Profile: Complex and Herbal
Very Rich! The Komodo Dragon Blend lives up to its name. It is my second favorite dark roasted coffee after Sumatra. The Komodo Dragon Blend is a drier coffee since the beans have been roasted for a long period of time but that cedar taste matches well with the complex spices and herbs. It combines the best elements of the coffees from Southeast Asia with the best elements of longer-roasted coffees and semi-washed coffees.

Sumatra Blend
Single-Origin (Asia/Pacific-Sumatra)
Taste Profile: Earthy and Herbal
Yum!! I love the Sumatra Blend. It is my favorite dark-roasted coffee. Sumatra has strong earthy flavors, but it is the subtle herbs/spices and cocoa undertones that enrich and enliven it. Sumatra doesn't overpower your taste buds and does not leave any bitter aftertaste.
Great with: just on its own or with a hint of chocolate and nutmeg sprinkled in.
